West Indies Legend Shimron Hetmyer Fined by BCCI after RR lose to SRH in IPL 2024 Qualifier 2- why ?

Rajasthan Royals batter Shimron Hetmyer was fined by BCCI after his team lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 on Friday at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. The RR batter, who made four runs off 10 balls in his team’s failed chase of 176 as they lost by 36 runs, has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees.

“Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on May 24,” BCCI said in a statement. The West Indian has admitted to the offence of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.

“Hetmyer committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” BCCI added.

While the board did not specify why Hetmyer was fined, it could be mostly because of his reaction to his dismissal. After Abhishek Sharma clean bowled him in the 14th over of the chase with a quick delivery. Hetmyer looked frustrated and tried to hit the stumps.

He, however, wasn’t the only RR batter to fail to show up. Apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal (42) and Dhruv Jurel (56), none of the RR batters managed double-digit scores in the chase as Shahbaz Ahmed (3/23) and Sharma (2/24) spun a web around them to restrict them to 139/7. For SRH, Heinrich Klaasen blasted a 34-ball 50 and Rahul Tripathi made 37 as they posted 175/9.
